This is a special place, the kind you remember, but can never find. By the Way is an old-fashioned bakery where everything is made by hand, from scratch, in small batches in our tiny kitchen. And, by the way, all our baked goods are gluten free and dairy free. They're also certified kosher. Most important, everything we make is as delicious as - if not better than - most conventional baked goods

Are all of your products dairy free? Yes. There’s milk for the coffee, but you won’t find any dairy products in the BTW kitchen. In fact, our baked goods are certified pareve (prepared without meat, milk, or their derivatives) by National Kosher Supervision (http://nationalkoshersupervision.com).
Are you kosher? Yes. We’re under the supervision of Rabbi Aaron Mehlman of National Kosher Supervision. He’s certified that our products are not only kosher; they’re pareve (prepared without meat, milk, or their derivatives) as well.
Are any of your products vegan? Our kitchen is continually testing vegan options, but we don’t currently have any on the menu. However, our rugelach is egg free.
What ingredients do you use instead of wheat and dairy? A notebook with information about each ingredient is available for your review at each location. You’ll learn about our gluten free flour mix and dairy alternatives. You’ll also see that we use the finest conventional ingredients, including Belgian chocolate, French cocoa powder, organic jam and pure Madagascar Bourbon vanilla.
Can I place an order for an item on the menu that isn’t available at the location where I’d like to pick it up? Yes, we’re happy to accept special orders! If you’d like to pick up cupcakes at our NYC store or mini cakes at our Hastings location, just give us 72 hours notice and the product will be waiting for you.
Do you make custom layer cakes? We LOVE making custom cakes, especially wedding cakes! Please take a look at the photo gallery to see just a few of the custom cakes we’ve made for very happy customers.
Can you accommodate large orders? Yes! Please give us a call to discuss catering options.
Do you deliver? Not at the moment, but we regularly revisit the issue, particularly for our NYC stores.
Do you ship? No. That’s a very different business that requires far more space than we have in our tiny shops.
