She walked away from a 22-year career in the law to open a bakery and,
along the way, found something much bigger...
This is a special place, the kind you remember, but can never find. By the Way Bakery is an old-fashioned bakery where everything is made by hand, from scratch, in small batches. And, by the way, all our baked goods are gluten-free and dairy-free. They're also certified kosher. Most important, everything we make is as delicious as – if not better than – most conventional baked goods.
Blueberry muffins bursting with blueberries. A lemon layer cake made with fresh lemon zest and filled with homemade lemon curd. A chocolate chip cookie made with the finest Belgian chocolate. A smile you can taste.

We love making special cakes for special occasions! Below are photos of some of our favorite cakes. Please see our Cake Book for more wonderful options. Custom cakes require at least 72 hours' notice. (Depending on the design, sometimes additional notice is required.) Each of our four locations receives a selection of 6" layer cakes each morning.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Are all of your products gluten free? Yes. Our kitchen is a dedicated gluten-free facility. Our products are recommended by the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University.
Are all of your products dairy free? Yes. There’s milk for the coffee, but you won’t find any dairy products in the BTW kitchen. In fact, our baked goods are certified kosher pareve.
Are any of your products vegan? No, because we use eggs (eggs aren't dairy). After years of trying, we've yet to come up with a vegan option that meets our standards. However, our rugelach is egg-free.
Are you kosher? Yes, everything we bake is kosher pareve. OK Kosher Certification, one of the world's leading and most recognized kosher certification agencies, supervises By the Way Bakery's daily baking operations at our commissary kitchen in Pleasantville, NY. The BTW commissary provides all of the baked goods sold in our retail stores and produces all of our pre-packaged goods. Our four By the Way Bakery retail locations are under the supervision of Rabbi Aaron Mehlman of National Kosher Supervision.
What ingredients do you use instead of wheat and dairy? We make our own gluten-free flour mix and use various dairy alternatives, depending on the product. We have a list of ingredients and allergens for each product available for your review at each of our locations. We also have a copy here: Ingredient Summary
Do you make custom layer cakes? We LOVE making custom cakes, especially wedding cakes! Please take a look at the photo gallery and our Cake Book to see just a few of the custom cakes we’ve made, then give us a call so we can design a special cake just for you. Please note that many custom cake designs require a minimum of three days' notice. However, we offer a selection of personalized cakes that can be ordered up to 48 hours in advance. See our 48-hour cake book for the available options. And no worries! Each of our four stores receives a variety of 6" layer cakes each morning.
Can you accommodate large orders? Yes! Please give us a call to discuss catering options.
Do you deliver? Sorry - only for catering orders over $450 (bar mitzvahs, weddings, large corporate events, etc.), for an additional fee that's based on the day and time of the delivery, as well as the distance from our commissary kitchen in Pleasantville, New York, where we do all of our baking.
Do you ship? No. That’s a very different business. But our staff is always happy to help you select the items that will ship best if you want to do the packing and shipping yourself.
Additional questions or concerns? Please send an email to custom@btwbakery and someone on our team will get back to you promptly.
